Leigh Shamburger-Adams MS, NCC, LPC

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) practicing psychotherapy in private practice. I earned a bachelor’s degree in humanities and a master’s degree in teaching from Trinity University and a master’s degree in counseling from Southern Methodist University.

I believe that we all struggle in some areas of life. We may struggle with self-perception, relationships, adapting to change, work, and enjoyment of life.  As a psychoanalytic-oriented therapist, I believe some of these struggles may be rooted in beliefs, fears, and behaviors that were learned through our family in childhood or through the process of socialization. Furthermore, behaviors we developed to cope or survive as children may no longer serve us well. In therapy, the patient and therapist may explore beliefs, fears, and behaviors that are contributing to life challenges. This exploration can give the client deeper self understanding, the ability to make different choices, and learn more effective coping skills.
